Bread is one of the oldest prepared foods. Evidence from 30,000 years ago revealed that starch extract from the roots of plants was spread on a flat rock, placed over a fire and cooked into a primitive form of bread. Around 10,000 BC, Neolithic age, grains became the mainstay of making bread.

Today, there are two major types of bread: White bread and Brown/Wholemeal Bread.
White bread is made from flour containing only the central core of the grain (endosperm).
Brown bread, also called wholemeal/whole-wheat, is made with the entire grain (bran and germ).

White bread is popular in taste. Brown/Wholemeal bread contains higher concentrations of minerals (fiber) and vitamins.
